different options

There are 4 categories of students in the academic world: each consisting of 2 particular characteristics:

1st category: hardworking; good results
2nd category: lazy; good results
3rd category: hardworking; poor results
4th category: lazy; poor results

For obvious reasons, I envy people from the second category. They put in absolutely no effort, and yet get straight A's without breaking a sweat.
As for the 3rd category, i feel sorry for them.. they put in SO much effort, they try and they try, they do their best, and yet every time exams come, they're set up for disappointment again and again.

Sometimes i wonder how God can be so unfair. But then i remember:
Each one of us has our own abilities. God is fair. He gives different gifts to each of His children. Some of us are gifted academically, and others in different fields. Whether it's music, art, cookery or helping others, each one of us specialise in our own outstanding way. Like Rick Warren wrote, each one of us has our own SHAPE.

We don't all have to be engineers or doctor or vets. Those aren't the only careers in the world. We have musicians, architects, psychologists, actors, chefs, businessmen, big bosses of huge companies (e.g. Mr Lau Kiu Kiong) out in the society earning millions, some of which didn't even go to college or university.
If one option seems blocked, broaden your mind. Maybe God wants you to excel in a different area. Try a different path.

Happy Valentines Day, everyone!! but let's not forget where love first came from:

"And God so loved the world He gave His one and only Son, that all those who believe in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life." (John 3:16)

"We love because He first loved us." (1 John 4:19)

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keepos no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. (1 Corinthians 13:4-7)

give your all

We've all heard the story where God tests Abraham:
God asked Abraham to sacrifice his one and only son to see if there was anything in his life that he treasured more than God. After all, Abraham's son was given to him by God, if God wants to take the boy back, Abraham ought to give his all to please God. (Genesis 22:1-12)
It's the same with us. Although God may not ask us to sacrifice (as in kill) the ones we love for Him anymore, He still expects us to give our all in different ways.
He may ask us to give up our natural instincts to seek revenge so that we may communicate His forgiving love by forgiving our enemies.
He may call us to sacrifice portions of our time or money or comforts to advance His cause.
Imagine inviting special friends over for dinner and just throwing a bunch of leftovers into the microwave. You can imagine how offended they would be.
It's the same with God. Whether we give Him the leftovers in our life or give Him our very best. The way we respond to what He requires echos how we really feel about Him.
Remember, He gave His one and only son for us. How could we make a lesser sacrifice?
No sacrifice we make is too great for the One who sacrificed His all.

what's the point in holding on so hard to something when it's inevitable that you're going to lose it?
I read something somewhere the other day...it goes something like this:

"If you really love something, let it go free. After it's free, if it comes back to you, then it's yours forever. If it doesn't, then it never was."

Jealousy is a strange thing...especially when mixed with shyness...you feel terrible but you're too much of a coward to say anything.. I never imagined i'd be so torn up over someone...

Rise Up!

"Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, 'They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don't know where they have put him!'
So Peter and the other disciple started for the tomb. Both were running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. He bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there but did not go in. Then Simon Peter, who was behind him, arrived and went into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there, as well as the burial cloth that had been around Jesus' head. the cloth was folded up by itself, separate from the linen. Finally the other disciple, who had reached to tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed...........On the evening of the first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, 'Peace be with you!'. After he said this, he showed them his hand and his side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord."
John 20:1-8, 19-20
"You, being dead in your trespasses,.....He has made alive together with Him."
Colossians 2:13
On February 6, 1958, a chartered plane carrying most of the members of the English soccer team Manchester United crashed on takeoff from Munich, Germany. With so many of their star players lost, some despaired over the prospects for the team's survival. Yet today it is one of the best-known teams in the world. Fittingly, the man who rebuilt the team, Matt Busby, survived the crash himself.
Nearly 2000 years ago, Jesus' arrest and subsequent crucifixion caused many of His followers to despair. The disciples themselves had lost hope. But their despondency evaporated on that first Easter morning when they found that the stone sealing the tomb had been moved aside (John 20:1). Jesus had risen!
Jesus soon appeared to Mary Magdalene (v.11-16) and then to his disciples (v.19). His visit brought a remarkable change in them. As one version renders it, they were 'overjoyed' (v.20).
Perhaps your world has crashed around you. It may be a deep personal loss, a tragedy in your family, or some other great trial. Jesus' resurrection proved that He is greater than the greatest obstacles. He can rebuild your life - as He did with His disciples - starting today.
God can turn any difficulty into an opportunity.
